Dutch Court Prosecutes Geert Wilders
The Court of Appeal in Amsterdam has ordered the criminal prosecution
on Wednesday of a nationalistic politician for expressing anti-Islamic
sentiments in a documentary film that he produced.
Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made Fitna (strife, in Arabic), a
controversial film a year ago, which equates Islam with violence and compares
the Koran to Hitler’s Mein Kampf.
Wilders told the Dutch news agency, ANP, that the ruling was a “black day for me
and for freedom of speech. I am shaken. I had absolutely not expected it.”
Although various Internet providers have banned the movie you can still go
to You Tube to see it.
Why did the Dutch government wait all of these many months since the release of the movie Fitna before they decided to prosecute this hero? What are they charging him with? Inciting violence? No, the charge is " insulting as well as substantially harming the religious esteem of the Islamic worshippers." How's that for freedom of speech?
It boggles the mind to imagine it: a lawmaker in a Western country being brought up on what amounts to criminal blasphemy charges. It is infuriating to watch the politically correct Dutch establishment sell out the right to free speech to appease an obstreperous¹ minority. I would say that it's outrageous to think that now people in the Netherlands risk criminal prosecution for criticizing religion and religious believers, but I think we all know no atheist is going to be hauled into the dock for criticizing Christians.
This is all about sacrificing free speech and a vital civil liberty to buy social peace. You don't have to agree with Wilders to grasp the meaning of this, though the Dutch court's action goes a long way toward vindicating Wilders' claim that the Dutch are losing their freedoms and their democracy because of the Moslem presence among them.
Meanwhile Al Qaeda has issued a Jihad against Geert and they want him dead and beheaded if possible.
¹obstreperous = unruly or aggressive noisiness, stubbornly resistant to control.
