BAGHDAD, Iraq (WPCB)- This is a great day in Iraqi history, the tyrant is a prisoner. Saddam Hussein looking more like a follower of Fidel Castro or a street person has been captured alive cowering in a spider hole in the basement of a rural farmhouse outside of his hometown of Tikrit. This coward, butcher and insane mental case who swore he would never be captured alive and would fight to the death, this darling of the European leftists, Spanish falangists and neo-nazis can now be tried for his crimes and hopefully hung by his neck until dead.

Council member Dara Noor al-Din told the press that the council was informed of the former dictator's capture in a telephone call from L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator for Iraq.

"Bremer has confirmed to the Governing Council that Saddam was captured near Tikrit," Noor al-Din said. "He spoke on the phone to several members, including Ahmad Chalabi."

Chalabi is a leading member of the council who has close links to the U.S. administration of President Bush.

In Washington, senior military officials confirmed there was a raid based on intelligence that Saddam was at a certain house and that some people were taken into custody. They were unwilling to be more specific.

Earlier, Iran's official news agency, IRNA, also reported that Saddam had been detained in Iraq. "Saddam Hussein was arrested near his hometown of Tikrit," IRNA quoted top Iraqi leader, Jalal Talabani as saying.

Nazem Dabbagh, a representative of Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdestan, confirmed Talabani's statement when reached by phone Sunday by an Associated Press reporter in Tehran.

In Baghdad, residents fired small arms in the air in celebration, and gunfire echoed in neighborhoods across the city. Earlier in the day, rumors of the capture sent people streaming into the streets of Kirkuk, a northern Iraqi city, firing guns in the air in celebration.

"We are celebrating like it's a wedding," said Kirkuk resident Mustapha Sheriff. "We are finally rid of that criminal." Saddam hiding in a hole like the rat he is was captured in an an operation called "Red Dawn" and the location known as Wolverine 2. It was has been reported that Saddam was working part time as a taxi driver and when captured was found with $750,000 in his posession, all in 100 dollar American bills.

"This is the joy of a lifetime," said Ali Al-Bashiri, another resident. "I am speaking on behalf of all the people that suffered under his rule."

Saddam, who ruled Iraq for 23 years until his ouster in April, has been a fugitive since then with a $25 million bounty on his head and the rumours are that his wife had turned him in.

CFPA: This is indeed a happy moment for freedom loving people throughout the world whether they be Christian, Jew or Moslem. It has been a long time coming and we were wondering if this filthy snake would ever be caught... our organization is totally elated at this news.....only the death of Fidel Castro could be more welcome.
